Mayor McGinn will attend the Seattle Transit Blog Open House tomorrow night, February 20, to discuss the Ballard to Downtown Transit Study. The meetup will be held at Hale’s Ales in Fremont (4301 Leary Way NW) starting at 5:30 p.m. Seattle Transit Blog and Seattle Subway have teamed up to organize event.
Mayor McGinn will join Sound Transit CEO Joni Earl to discuss the study and future possibilities for high capacity transit in our area. Community members will have the opportunity to hear information about the study and to ask questions of the speakers.
“It’s a great opportunity for people who have been pushing for rail expansion to see the fruits of their efforts,” said Seattle Subway representative Ben Schiendelman.
In November last year Sound Transit approved $2 million of funding to study rail transit from downtown to Ballard. This amount combined with $800 000 from the City of Seattle is funding the Ballard to Downtown Transit Study.
Schiendelman reported that public pressure was a key element in the follow through of the Sound Transit funds last year. He described tomorrow night’s Open House as “the first visible impact of that win” for the citizen activist organization.
All are welcome to attend. Light hors d’oeuvres will be provided compliments of Seattle Transit Blog.
