Washington Federal Bank will open its doors at 9 a.m. today in its newly rebuilt location at 2020 NW Market St. The office was first opened on Market St in 1945 and has been rebuilt, with construction crews working since spring 2012.
Washington Federal was founded by a group of Ballard businessmen in 1917. Their aim was to provide the local community with a source of funds for home loans and to help build a secure financial future for our area.
The original office was located a few doors down at 2023 Market Street and was named Ballard Savings and Loan. In 1958, it merged with Washington Federal Savings Association of Bothell and changed its name.
“This is where our company first put down roots nearly a century ago. As evidenced by this investment, we remain firmly committed to the Ballard community and our most loyal clients, many who have been banking with us for decades,” said Chairman, President and CEO Roy Whitehead.
Washington Federal currently operates 190 offices in eight states offering residential real estate loans, commercial real estate financing, consumer deposit accounts, and business banking.
Once the rebuild is complete the office will feature parking, a drive-thru lane and walk-up ATM.
To celebrate the opening, Ballard Chamber of Commerce will be attend the ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. All are welcome.
