Sonic Boom Records is consolidating by closing down its shops on Fremont Ave. in Fremont. “This is not due to downloading or file sharing nor is it due to declining business,” explains the press release. “The change is due to market forces such as increasing rent and major neighborhood changes.” Sonic Boom says that it always thought it was “a bit crazy” to have the Ballard and Fremont locations so close to each other, so now the Ballard location will be renovated to absorb the extra inventory from Fremont. In the meantime, employees will be getting raises and health insurance. As many know, Sonic Boom began as a small shop in Fremont. It will be sad to see them leave the neighborhood.
