The small lock at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks is in the midst of annual maintenance. It’s completely drained and there’s some scaffolding waayyy down at the bottom. It shows you how much more there is below the surface, so to speak. In the meantime, boat traffic is going through the large locks. Yesterday evening, a single 30-foot boat on its way to Puget Sound looked like a toy boat in a bathtub going the large lock.
Hurry if you want to see it. They’re supposed to wrap up maintenance on Friday.
And by the way, the folks running the Army Corps site are also soliciting photos for their Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden section. Learn more here.
