A mallard duck has apparently taken up station outside the grocery store entrance at the Ballard Fred Meyer like some avian Salvation Army bell-ringer, quacking for handouts from store customers.
The duck brazenly walks up to people seeking – and scoring – food scraps. A store associate says the duck is always there. “He has a partner too, but I don’t know where she is at the moment,” she said.
My bet is she’s in the housewares department, picking up a little something for the nest. And maybe an egg timer…
Adds John in comments: “I ran into them last night, they were inside, walking up towards toys, but not yet past the self-scan registers.”
