You may have noticed on our events calendar that the Army Corps of Engineers will close the Ballard Locks to boaters this coming Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The plan is to install an “Adult Salmon Exclusion Structure,” which is fish-speak for a screen that will help prevent chinook salmon from getting snagged in the locks’ water system. “It is being placed near the middle pier between the east entrances to both locks,” explains the Corps. “There will be divers in the water during much of the time period, preventing lock operations.”
