A jury has awarded former Ballard High School vice principal, Glenda Williams, nearly $700,000 in a lawsuit against the Seattle School District. According to the Seattle Times, she claims that the district retaliated against her after she accused then-principal Method Odoemene of sexual harassment in 2003. Once Williams went to district officials, she believes that her career went downhill. She bounced around to several schools and has since been demoted. The school district says that she was re-assigned to be a teacher after she told African-American students that they were “targeted and set up” by school officials because of their race. Williams filed her lawsuit in King County Superior Court last year and a jury awarded her $672,646 for back pay, future pay and emotional damage. “I feel vindicated. I’m very pleased. I get my good name back,” Williams told King5 News. “It’s been a five year ordeal. It’s been a long time coming, but I am grateful for the outcome.” The district may appeal.
