The would-be bank robber whose attempt was thwarted by friendly bank staff has been arrested. Michael W. Root of North Bend was taken into custody yesterday at a motel near 42nd and Aurora. The 37-year-old is accused of several bank robberies and for casing the 1st Mutual and US Bank here in Ballard just last week. The FBI says that Root is being held in King County Jail on Investigation of Robbery. He will likely face federal bank robbery charges.
