4:30 p.m. update: Snow continues to fall with no signs of it letting up. The Doppler shows more snow in our future. We just measured and have an inch of new snow from our last measure earlier today. Forecasts vary, but we’re looking at as much as 3-6 inches of new snow by tonight (so with the original 5 inches, that’s 8-14 total.) And meteorologists don’t expect it will melt tomorrow. Meanwhile, photos from around Ballard this afternoon:
A man shoveling snow off the roof of apartments on 65th near 15th Ave. As the snow continues to pile up, any structure with a flat roof could be at risk of damage or collapse. Residents and business owners are advised to seek professional services to clear the snow.
Like many hills, 65th above 3rd Ave. has become a ski and sledding run. Here’s a video of kids snowboarding and sledding there late last night.
65th St. is closed, but traffic is still moving on 3rd Ave. So if you’re driving by on 3rd, please be very careful as sledders may appear out of nowhere. “Over on Sunset Hill, 71st and 70th are covered with sledders right now. Lots of parental supervision at both ends of the street to prevent sledder/car interaction,” adds Lakreitz in comments. More on 68th Ave., too.
These guys are digging out a Saab that’s stuck in the ice and snow on 65th.
Near the stuck Saab, Cafe Bambino has put a firewood stove outside on the sidewalk to provide customers with a little warmth.
Kim sent this photo from this morning of snow-covered boats at Shilshole. Brrrr. Notice the small Christmas tree under the tent on the right. If you have photos, please send ’em to tips@myballard.com. We’re a little behind on posting some of them, but we’ll try to catch up later today.
