A large dispatch of fire crews responded to a scene of a fire at a small apartment building at 65th St. at 16th Ave. just before 11 a.m. Thursday.
We arrived and saw smoke pouring from the back of the building.
Initially, crews were worried there may be people trapped inside, which explains the very large response. Fortunately, everyone made it out OK.
The fire was “tapped” (or put down) within minutes. 65th St. was closed from 15th Ave. to 17th Ave. for about 45 minutes.
Adds Sharon in comments: “We live directly behind this building and have a view into their yard…. It looks like the damage is total in at least one unit (bottom east) and I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole building is beyond repair from what I can see.”
