For the last six weeks, every student at Adams Elementary has been reading the same book, “How Tia Lola Came to (Visit) Stay” by Julia Alvarez. In December, Adams’ PTA bought each student a copy of the book to participate in the second annual “Adams Reads the Same Book” program. On Friday night Alvarez will read from the book and answer questions. As a descendant of the Dominican Republic, Julia Alvarez is one of the most renowned Latina authors of our time. She writes to help bridge the cultural gap between Latinos and Americans. The event is open to the public, not just students who read the book. The reading starts at 7 p.m. with Q&A and a book signing to follow.
