We contacted the Mayor’s Office about the Kevin Black memorial on 24th St. that was removed last week. After some checking, a spokesperson tells us the city follows a careful protocol with roadside memorials, and they did not take it down. One My Ballard reader says he saw “a man there with a trash bag,” and others speculate that it may have been the work of a man who routinely cleans poles around the neighborhood, especially in Old Ballard.
The family is hoping the notes and photos that were removed — including a framed photo of Kevin and the kids — will be returned. If you have any information, please email us here at My Ballard and we’ll connect you with the family. (Photo from February 8th during the memorial ride.)

Thanks for caring Ballard
Kevin Black's family and friends will have a celebration of his life this Sat April 11th in Riverside CA. He lived and went to school in Riverside CA.
His parents are still living there.
I wish we could of asked some of his friends to take it down, it would of been nice.
Believe me Kevin's family understands his loss is greatful than the memorial on the telephone pole. I first thought it could be the insurance defense for the person who killed Kevin Black. Makes sense they want this to go away.. ….
