When they say it’s one of the shortest events you’ll ever attend, they mean it. This morning was the Spring Candy and Egg “Hunt” at Ballard and Loyal Heights Community Centers. We put “hunt” in parenthesis, because it’s really more of a dash. Or a scramble. To the photographic evidence:
Kids and their parents wait in anticipation around the perimeter of the lawn in front of the Loyal Heights Community Center. Plastic eggs are scattered throughout the grass in plain view. They’re… so… close.
After what seems like forever, they’re off!
No egg is safe.
About 30 seconds later, the lawn is picked clean. Kids pack up their loot, get their photos taken and rush home to crack into a morning sugar high.

the treats were amazingly healthy this year. we're talking clif bars and snacker tilamook cheese. not exactly holiday candy but none the less i was impressed.
Now we just need this same crew of kids on litter cleanup!
Super cool. Hoppy Easter Ballard!
I remember how the kids used to laugh at the houses that handed out healthy stuff at Halloween as they tossed it all away.
It's stories like this that keep me checking into myballard. I just love this story. And geekyswedes, your little one will soon be part of this!
