After a long, cold, dark and snowy winter, motorcycle enthusiasts are coming out of hibernation just in time for the afternoon commute. Tonight is the spring opener for the monthly “Backfire Motorcycle Night,” an event for motorcycle lovers to shake hands and talk shop. The group pretty much takes over the corner of 4910 Leary Ave NW near the Bit Saloon starting at 5 p.m. the third Wednesday of every month. Founder Todd Werney emailed us, “This is not your typical Harley oriented night but rather an alternative night with a focus on the newly exploding CAFE RACER and ratbike scene with a smattering of good old vintage Japanese and European bikes too.”

Ask Todd Werner about the wherabouts of Diamond Fist Werney… are they still together?
Diamond Fist Werny is no more, but I understand Todd has another music project in the works.
funny, Diamond Fist Werney was the first thing that came to my mind too.
I wonder if I can get my 85 nighthawk operational in time…anyone looking for a nice vintage (yes, I am told it is vintage now) bike? 2nd owner, 24k miles.
If you are looking to sell a bike, this is a good place to show it off. Also, besides Craigslist, you can try the Backfire classifieds, and the Cretins have a for sale section on their forums.
Is something going in that building to replace the wine bar?
The Station is under new ownership, is being renovated, and will re-open sometime soon, we hope.
what will it be opening as, boxcar? i drove by last night and there were sure some gorgeous bikes there at the meet. alot of time & work went into those loud machines, very cool. ride safe fellas and gals!!
Well, I don't really know for sure… but I heard it would be more or less the same restaurant / bar, maybe with a menu change? Word is, there are some big changes coming which I was told not to mention. I'll leave it to the owners to reveal, I don't want to ruin any surprises for them.
People need to remember that people live near there and they should not block off the street so cars cannot get through. It's just rude to stand in the street and make people wait to get through. I have no problem with them coming together and showing off there bikes, but be polite and don't stand in the middle of the street.
Um, yeah. Good luck with that.
Was it a problem blocking that street every month all summer the previous 8 years they held this event?
I think you may be confusing this with the yearly Spring Opener that is held on Ballard Avenue, this has no affiliation with that event. This is only the second year of Backfire, it's monthly. And I can assure you the only people in the streets are just crossing them. No streets are blocked off.
Granted there are quite a few people crossing back and forth, but cars can get through, and no one's path is being impeded.
Why this praise for CO2 emitters?
Go hold your breath, CO2 emitter.
