More than 500 people are expected at Saturday’s Second Ascent Twilight Criterium which is a fast-paced bike race on a short course. This year’s “crit” will have more than 200 cyclists, Greg Shaw the owner of Second Ascent tells us. The race starts and finishes at Ballard Ave & 20th Ave NW and circles around Old Ballard. From 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. the following streets will be closed:
There are six different races with the first starting at 3:30 p.m. Cyclists race to complete the most laps in a given time. The final and longest race of the day starts at 7:30 p.m. when the racers ride for one hour and ten minutes around the course. Shaw tells us that people come out of the bars to watch and spectators whoop and holler at the racers. “For those who have never seen it, it’s so fast paced it’s really fun to watch,” he said.
Can't wait to see the races this weekend – great to have them in Ballard.
can't think of a worse course, as far as road quality goes, than this… every year it suprises me.
