Hundreds of cyclists descended on Old Ballard today for a series of races known as the Second Ascent Twilight Criterium.
The action is fast and furious, especially around the tight corners. The first race began at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, and the big pro race got underway at 7:30 p.m.
The races start in the middle of Ballard Ave. and run a loop down Shilshole Ave. and back. Traffic is diverted around the area.
Lots of spectators enjoyed the races up close and personal, cheering the cyclists as they sped by. In the first race alone, there were three or four spills, with cyclists losing control in the turns and suffering minor injuries.
We posted lots more photos on the My Ballard Facebook page.

We enjoyed the photos this morning to as a reminder glimpse of fun being out and about in the neighborhood.
Wonder whether the track was tough enough.
