Amanda Lorenzo is an eclectic, colorful children’s author who lives right here in Ballard. She just released two books for kids between six and ten years-old. Both books in the Runt Farm series, “Under New Management” and “Beatrice and Blossom,” introduce us to a cast of characters that creates a non-traditional family. “We need family, we make family wherever we go, whoever we are,” Lorenzo says, “And in one way or another, we’re all runts. Everyone has quirks. But when we find our true place and our true people, those people are our family. At Runt Farm we embrace the runt in everyone, in every species.” There will be a Runt Farm Book Launch and Party at Motion and Rest (5340 Ballard Ave) on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy live entertainment, meet the Runt Farm illustrator and Amanda Lorenzo will be reading and signing books.

Congratulations on your launch — The Peep and Beatrice are so darling. Lovely illustrations. Best of luck!!
I'd read so many interesting reviews on 'Runt Farm Under New Management' I just had to read it for myself. I found it to be one of the most delightful stories I've ever read.
Now I see that the author, Amanda Lorenzo, is as equally interesting as her books. May there be many more Runt Farm adventures!

Why is there nothing on the blog about market Street trick-or-treat 2009? I was searching b/c Magnolia is doing theirs on Friday the 30th and I wanted to check the date for Ballard's. I found it on the Ballard Chamber of Commerce site – it is Saturday, October 31, 2009 from 4 – 6 for children 12 and under.
Great book!
