Surf Ballard and Makai Coffee have made their presence known to the world.
The signs just went up yesterday at the shops at 6300 Seaview Ave. Surf Ballard just celebrated their grand opening this month and Makai Coffee opened on December 5th. (Photo from the Surf Ballard Facebook page.)

I can't help but want a Midnight Cuban sandwich seeing Paseo in the background.
Wasn't there a surf shop there before? Are these not the same people?
Hey there! My name is Shawn, and I am one of the owners of SURF BALLARD. I'm sitting upstairs at Makia Coffee right know, enjoying a cup of coffee with Adrienne. :) We are stoked to be included on MyBallard's page!! YAY!!!
To answer your question Lovrien, yes…there was a surf shop here before. I was a manager at the former Cheka Looka surf shop. We recently changed ownership, remodeled the shop, and changed up the name. :)
We have a fresh stock of surfboards, books, DVD's, and SURF BALLARD clothing. If you guys happen to be cruising down Seaview, stop on by and grab a cup of coffee! We have a comfy couch downstairs, and always enjoy making new friends.
I'm stoked to try SUP! Do you guys have Kona Coffee?
Come on down and try it out! We have wetsuits that will keep you nice and warm. :)
We do not serve Kona coffee. Went the local route with Lighthouse. :)
Wow a coffee shop! Novel I am curious since you decided against Kona in favor of local coffee, exactly where is the local coffee you serve grown? That area of Ballard near the equator maybe

Paseo's is closed until January 30th! I went to get some grub and was extremeeeely saddened by this!

Oh my. You do realize that there is no such thing a locally grown coffee here? Kona is a type of coffee grown in Hawaii, the only US grown coffee. It can only be grown in latitudes between 24 and 25 degrees. It has nothing to do with where it is roasted.
WOW, a slew of attitude thrown at someone who was just trying to be friendly!
Who F-ING cares how much they know about coffee. He's supposed to know about wet suits, tail rocker, side cuts and fin foil, not coffee.
Why all the attitude?
It's what Ytoo does.
Hey dude! We never said anything about growing coffee in Seattle. We just said we buy coffee that is roasted by a Seattle company. Hawaiian coffee is GOOD, but much more expensive. We may ultimately have Kona coffee for sale by the bag, but at this point it isn't as cost-effective for espresso drinks.
Thanks for your input on coffee Ytoo, if you happen to stop by the shop I'd be happy to pour you a doppio on the house.
xo,
Makai Coffee Club
welcome to the neighborhood .. i dont drink coffee but will swing in for some hot chocolate….its great to see small another buisiness open shop here..will stop by soon to show support
They're gonna bring back the flowers, too. Yay! One stop shopping…
You suck.
That was for “Ytoo”. Ytoo sucks. And hopefully does it well.
Thanks, Glutton
We appreciate the support. :)
Hawaiian coffee is the best, IMHO. I don't think you can go wrong here.
Hey guys, Congrats on your new shop! I work at a restaurant here in the 'hood that serves all local ingredients, and we were stumped by the coffee too–do we not serve coffee, since it's not locally grown? Won't Seattlites hang us for that? We opted with locally processed coffee that is certified organic and fair trade, as it supports a local business and therefore the local economy, which is a huge part of the drive to consume local goods exclusively. I think you guys made a great decision. Can't wait to stop by and check your place out!
Looks like this place is worth visiting. I will adjustt my schedule and try to visit there someday.
