Ballard High School is retiring the jersey of former Ballard basketball great George Irvine. The 1966 Ballard grad went on to play at the University of Washington, was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics in the 1970 draft as well as the Virginia Squires (ABA). After a decade of playing, he turned to coaching. Irvine served as an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons and Golden State Warrior and spent 25 years of his professional career as head coach for the Pacers and Pistons.
Irvine will be honored at a dinner and ceremony before tonight’s (Friday) varsity game against Inglemoor. Irvine is the third player to make it onto the Ballard Basketball Wall of Fame. He will join Michael Johnson (class of 1997) and Kim Stewart (class of 1974). The free dinner starts at 6 p.m. Email kswynkoop@seattleschools.org to RSVP. (Photo courtesy The Seattle Times.)

Wow, I had no idea George Irvine was from Ballard High! How cool is that? I need to get my head out of the sand.
Awesome 2OT win last night over Inglemoor to top off a great night!
