The Loyal Heights Community Center Pancake Breakfast is their biggest fundraiser of the year. This year, the breakfast will be held on Sunday, March 7th from 8 a.m. to noon at the center (2101 NW 77th St) and organizers are looking for volunteers. Melissa Valenzuela with LHCC sent us this note:
We typically need about 60 volunteers to cover two days, March 6 and March 7. On March 6, we spend about 6 hours setting up our gym with rows of tables and chairs with decorations, cleaning grills and setting up food and beverage stations, and of course, mixing pounds and pounds of pancake batter. We typically start at 9 a.m.
On the 7th, volunteers start at 7 a.m. to cook eggs, sausage and pancakes and to serve coffee and juice. We serve about 500 people from 8-noon. We always have a clean-up crew that begins washing dishes and removing trash at 11 a.m. The dishes take a lot of time! We’re usually done with clean-up, sweeping and mopping, breaking down tables and chairs, cleaning grills again, etc. around 2:30 p.m. It feels like all this in done in a blink of an eye!
Our volunteers vary in age, from Ballard High School students to older adults who have been volunteering for years. Some of the volunteers are members of the center’s Advisory Council, who love to see neighbors pitching in. All volunteers are treated to a free breakfast, and we ask all volunteers to commit at least 4 hours.
If you’re interested in volunteering you can call LHCC at 684-4052 or email Melissa at melissa.valenzuela@seattle.gov.
The cost is $4 in advance and $5 at the door. Kids 3 and under are free. All proceeds from the breakfast benefit scholarships and teen programs.
