A combination of a low tide and sunny weather brought people out to look at the tide pools at our local beaches.
This is a shot of Carkeek Park just before noon on Friday. The low tide of -2.3 hit at 11:47 a.m. on Friday. Saturday will see a -2.8 tide at 12:27 p.m. and a -2.9 low tide is expected on Sunday afternoon at 1:11. According to King5.com, the sun should be around most of the weekend, with a few showers possibly falling on Sunday. Beach Naturalists won’t be at the beaches until Memorial Day weekend, to teach the curious about the sea creatures. The lowest tide of the summer will be a -3.5 tide on Sunday, June 13th.
Expect larger than normal crowds at Golden Gardens over the weekend. The 2010 Sperry Top-Sider National Offshore One-Design (NOOD) regatta is in town for the third year. This is the fourth stop for the largest sailboat race tour in the country. More than 200 boats and 1,000 sailors are expected. Organizers say the best place to watch the race is from Golden Gardens. This means that traffic could be a mess and parking will probably be at a premium both at Shilshole and at Golden Gardens. Here is the schedule (.pdf) of the regatta. (Thanks Marina for the Carkeek Park picture and Daniel for the NOOD tip!)

sweet, dogs will be stomping out marine life en masse!

It’s a 500.00 fine to be with your dog on the beach,….why do asume dogs
will be killing the beach life. There are all kinds of sharp objects out there. I would never let my dogs roam the beaches due to fact that I would not like to see my dogs injured.
That you willysnout? I thought you were down in Eugene this weekend?
DB, have you been to the beaches around here. There are tons of dogs. I personally witnessed a dog terrorizing the wildlife during low tide last year. The fine does not stop anyone from bringing their pooches.
yeah, the fine is steep if you can ever find someone to write that ticket. i’d love to see all the inconsiderate dog folks get these tickets., it would be a simple revenue booster also.
the best part is that these are usually the same people crying about the “bums” and the campers, etc – the laws only matter unless it involves them and their little fuzzy snookums.
I took the kiddos to carkeek this afternoon. They loved it.
