Ballard High School principal (and BHS grad) Phil Brockman is leaving the school for a new position within the district. He sent this email out to parents:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The rumors are true. I will be leaving the Principalship at Ballard High to become an Executive Director of Schools. This was a very difficult decision for me because I love my job and the Ballard Community. These past six years have been an amazing experience and the most rewarding in my 27 years with the Seattle Public Schools. I plan to stay engaged with Ballard High School, so don’t be surprised if you see me at concerts, athletic events, or just walking the halls of BHS. Ballard High will be in good hands with Keven Wynkoop (third generation Ballard graduate), our new Head Beaver. I am personally very pleased that he will be our new principal, so please congratulate and welcome him in his new position.
It has been an honor and a privilege to be the Head Beaver and as always,
It Is Great To Be A Beaver!
Phil Brockman
Kevin Wynkoop is currently one of the assistant principals at the school and will be assigned as interim principal for now, Teresa Wippel with Seattle Public Schools tells us.
Mr. Wynkoop? As in the history teacher there??
I guess he’s young and can “relate” to the students, but I never personally cared for him as a teacher. I hope he makes a good principal, I’m sure Ballard could use another steady one as I always heard about tiffs in the administration.
good riddance to mr. brockman but alarming that mr. wynkoop is taking over. both equally could care less about the students. hands down, the worst show of care for students i have ever seen. they can’t be bothered to help, or control students at the school. mr. wynkoop may as well not even show up.
Wow – I went to school with Kevin Wynkoop and always thought he was a good guy. Pretty sad to see the previous two posts. Hope they are wrong.
As a former student of Mr. Koops I have to disagree with the above comments. He was always a great teacher and worked really well as the activities director with ASB. As a former student of his I always thought he cared a lot about his students and the school. He will do a great job as interim principal.
