Whitman Middle School musicians will be performing as “buskers” at Bergen Place Park on Saturday afternoon. “Please come and listen to some music by a variety of instruments and leave a tip- large or small- to show your appreciation for the students’ talent and effort,” band director Joel Orsen says in an email. From noon until 2 p.m. they’ll have their music cases open (or tip jars out) raising money for the family of 13-year-old Joseph Gebregiorgis, who died in last weekend’s tragic fire in Fremont. “I originally conceived the event to be a fundraiser for the music program but after the tragedy last weekend I couldn’t really see how we could do anything but help out the Gebregiorgis family,” Orsen tells us.

Very cool. I’ll try to get down there on Saturday.
Whitman has a very caring group of students and faculty. We are very happy to be a part of this school community. Come down and listen to the instumental music students. There is some real talent in this group.
