After a rough three years at the head of Beaver football, head coach John Bowers has resigned.
Coach John Bowers before the 2009 season.
He sent an email to parents and players saying that his resignation was effective today, November 1. The email states that he talked with players, thanked them and asked that they get more players out next year.
“THANKS to all the parents for all their hard work and effort. It’s been fun working with your sons,” Bowers writes, “the future looks bright with so many underclassmen with playing time.”
Coach Bowers’ record during the three years was 3-24, only winning one game each season. “The program needs numbers,” Bowers writes,”a new coach can up these numbers.”
According to Teresa Wippel with Seattle Public Schools, the position will be posted on the Seattle Public Schools website and the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association website. “There’s lots of time,” she tells us, “There won’t be any huge hurry.” (Thanks Don for the tip!)
so happy to see him go! this should have been done this time last year..
he was a bad coach, and a total jerk to many players and some staff at the high school. this is a great day!!
I completely disagree with you, ballardsports. I had the pleasure of working with John over the last 3 years and found him to be a quality guy. I think he had a tough job trying to overcome the general apathy that the athletes at BHS tend to possess – all the while trying to run the program in compliance with the WIAA. I never heard of any problems with the staff at the school either. Don’t know where you got that information….
this past year i have had a the pleasure of working with bowers and it has been fun. he has been such a good coach for ballard.. we are not going tgo find a coach who is willing to cach our team.
i totally agree with you i had this past year to work with him and it been fun ballard is not going to find a better coach
Let’s see, three wins in three years and half the 2007 freshman team quitting when he took over. Please, I am tired of the Ballard apathy excuse. State finals and then a playoff run in 2007 should prove a good coach can provide results.
I have talked with coach Bowers many times and I would agree that he is a nice man. However, he was the wrong pick for Ballard’s football coach.
Sad to hear Coach Bowers resigned! He was up against tough and opinionated parents, low turnout for a huge high school with many other opportunities for kids to do other activities, and an incredible schedule with fellow 4A schools. I appreciate what he taught my son!
I didn’t really like this, just am a newbie. I think Coach John was awesome! My son played for him for 2 years, didn’t play this year and we couldn’t force him at his age. Coach Bowers inspired to come play his senior year and respected his decisions this past year. He had high expectations on and off the field and held young men responsible for their choices on and off the field, something every high school coach should have!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love Coach Bowers and what he tried to do for BHS Football! Sad my son chose not to play this year, but he was inspired to play next year! Like the way he held players accountable for actions on and off the field, like his morals, like his work ethic. Ballard’s loss is another school’s gain!
Hi GeekySwedes,
I love the news that you post about Ballard HS. I just went to their homecoming game a couple of weeks ago.
We live just north of the 85th SPS dividing line. My daughter will be attending Ingraham. Could you start covering that school as well?
