This evening is “The Hood Hunt #2,” a scavenger hunt for Seattle neighborhoods. “The ‘Hood Hunts are a series of map-based scavenger hunts, held in various neighborhoods in the Seattle area. This is a grassroots effort, where the participants take turns ‘hosting’ each hunt, so we try to keep these as simple as possible, for both participants and our volunteer hosts,” the website states.
The hunt today is in the West Woodland neighborhood, starting at 5:30 p.m. Organizers say if you’re running late or have to leave early, it’s no problem. You can start whenever you want. The plan is to meet in the parking lot north of West Woodland Elementary (near NW 58th and 5th Ave NW). After the hunt, there will be social time at a local bar.
The link to today’s hunt, including a map and clues can be found here. The Facebook page for the event is here. If you can’t make it today, no problem. The map and clues will be online afterward so you can grab your friends and make it an adventure.
Here is the city clerk’s neighborhood map with the specific neighborhoods of Ballard: http://clerk.ci.seattle.wa.us/~public/nmaps/html/NN-1170S.htm
That’s clearly out of date. I don’t see Lower Gurpledom, Gurple Park /or/ the Outer Gurple Wastes.
On a lot of “older” maps, the business district on 65th between 3rd and 8th is marked as “Phinney.” I’ve also heard “Lower Phinney, ‘the less charming “East Ballard” and the maybe even less charming, “Phallard” used for this neck of the neighborhood.
