Last week we highlighted a crafts event at Space to Create to make needy families gifts and cards for the holidays. Barb and Lauren, the organizers say they’re amazed by the turnout.
“As this was a first for us, we had no idea what to expect. To put is quite simply, we were wowed by everyone’s generosity,” they write in an email. During the four hours, nearly 5 dozen people came by.
The 59 people:
* raised $875.00 that will be converted to gift cards for families
* sewed up 30 fleece hats
* sewed 20 pairs of fleece mittens
* created over 50 handcrafted holiday cards
* labeled 40 lip balms
* 11 hand sewn journal holders with pads and pencils
* stuffed and wrapped over 50 holiday crackers filled with toys
* made over 30 rings
The participants were of all ages. Barb and Lauren say that a 4th grade girl came in and donated $25 of her own money and a 5th grade boy carefully selected the perfect buttons for the journal cover he was sewing. “Thank you for being so generous, for reaching out to families you don’t even know, for bringing your kids, for sharing your talent,” they write.
