People looking to donate to the victims of Friday’s early morning fire can do so at any Key Bank, including the Ballard branch located at 1536 NW Market St.
To donate, go to any branch say you’d like to donate to the Luberts Family Fund. We’re told by a Ballard branch representative that each branch has been made aware of the fund and account information has been distributed.
Meanwhile, the fire has been ruled as “undetermined” by the Seattle Fire Department. Fire investigators could not enter the burned-out home because of the unsafe conditions, Sue Stangl with Seattle Fire says. The cost of damage to the house is $200,000 with another $100,000 in lost contents.
That loss estimate seems low to me. The place looks like a total loss. I hope they had insurance!
I was just speaking with a friend over the hollidays that lives in an old house in Philly, and for weeks they kept smelling a “fishy” smell in their upstairs hallway. After numerous attempts at cleaning, they finally Googled “fishy smell” and learned that arcing electrical wires can produce such an odor. Turns out, that’s what is was. Luckily they fixed the problem before something bad happened.
“Fire investigators could not enter the burned-out home because of the unsafe conditions, Sue Stangl with Seattle Fire says”
isn’t that the case in most burned buildings? I’m really surprised they don’t have some equipment to get in there and see how it started.
“undetermined” really seems like a cop-out.
