Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire early this morning at Tarasco (1452 NW 70th St.)
Lt. Sue Stangl with the Seattle Fire Department says the owner, who lives above the restaurant, smelled smoke around 1 a.m. and called 911. He got out of the building without injuries.
The cause of the fire is overheated electrical wiring in the kitchen. Damage estimates include $5,000 in contents, $15,000 in structural damage. The upstairs apartment is still livable, Stangl says.
But I want to karaoke! No but really, this is too bad. $20,000? Bummer. I’m glad everyone is safe and my heart goes out to the owners.
The upper back wall and roof of the building are chain sawed away. They’re gonna need some repairs quickly before it rains. My husband heard the chain saws at around 2 am but ms insomnia didn’t hear a thing.
Tony was out at dawn with his carpenters beginning the repairs. They worked hard all day and with the nice stretch of weather we have coming (showers tomorrow and Friday notwithstanding) he’ll be back in business in no time.
Good to hear.
I’d hate to be the electrician who worked there with no permits!
Dang, sorry Tony! Hope I can still get some of those super yummy and cheesy nachos!
Glad to hear that his apartment is still livable!
