Help choose which play you want to see during the 2011-2012 season at Ghost Light Theatricals at the Ballard Underground (2220 NW Market St). The fifth annual Battle of the Bards “fun”draiser is coming up next month.
On February 11th at 7:30 and 10 p.m. and February 12th at 7:30 p.m., three groups will perform scene adaptations of classic works. The audience will pick the winning performance and that play will go into next season’s line up. BATTLE OF THE BARDS V features a selection from FREAK STORM by Don Fleming, directed by Ellie McKay – an adaptation of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” on a volcano-powered secret base in the Cascade Mountains, where a mysterious figure strives to wreak revenge on her enemies and save the Earth; a piece from THE TINDERBOX: OR DON’T SCREW THE POOCH by Pat Haines-Ainsworth, directed by Suzannah Rogan – a not-so-reverent adaptation of the familiar fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen that presents a simple truth: when given a chance at wealth, fortune, and fame, we’ll almost always mess things up; and part of THE LITTLE PRINCESS written and directed by Peter Frost – an adaptation of the Frances Hodgson Burnett novel, “A Little Princess” tells the story of a girl who is sent to a boarding school by her wealthy father and uses her imagination and empathy to get through difficult times.
