The sign in the door of the Ballard Ave Pub (2236 NW Market St) says, “Sorry but today Ballard Ave Pub will be closed! thank you…..”
According to the King County website, the establishment was closed yesterday for “Operating without a valid permit.” (h/t to the Slog for alerting us to this.)

Have you been in there?! The rumor going around town is that it’s just a front for selling drugs.
I imagine they wrote “Ballard Ave” on their permit and then someone realized that wasn’t right at all.
I’ve been there, good place to catch a game and little low key than the nonsense across the street.

I don’t think the name was the reason they were shut down. It was incorrectly called “Ballard St.” in the health department’s original release.
Permit? I got no stinkin permit.
The Ballard BBQ place (that replaced the Chai House) was open then closed super quickly, then same thing with the Vintner’s Annex (next to the new Tea Cozy yarn shop). How does that happen? How can someone fork over the huge pile of money to open a liquor-serving business then close…. I can only imagine the financial hardship on the forelorned entreprueners.

Sometimes your “forelorned entrepreneurs” are people who have unrealistic dreams, lack proper funding, andor intelligence to succeed.
I do hope they are able to re-open. I love this place. I like sitting at the window, opening a book, drink a beer, and watch market. Its quiet in there right after work. The nightlife isn’t horrid. Its busy, but never insane. It has started becoming my favorite bar and my go to place.
