Whitman Middle School has a new principal, but she’s not new to the school. On Monday, Dr. Susan Enfield, the Interim Superintendent of Seattle Public Schools, sent out the following announcement:
Today I am pleased to announce the appointment of Sue Kleitsch as the next Whitman principal. Most of you already know Ms. Kleitsch, as she has served as the assistant principal at Whitman for the past 10 years and has been a valuable part of the Whitman family since 1997.
Ms. Kleitsch has demonstrated strength both as an instructional leader and a manager of a diverse and vibrant middle school. She replaces Michael Starosky, our new Consulting Principal in the Human Resources department, where he will serve as a peer coach to principals. Candidates for the Whitman principalship were selected from our principal applicant pool and Whitman community members were part of the interview team. We will work to fill the Assistant Principal position as soon as possible.
Ms. Kleitsch joined the Whitman staff as the House Administrator after serving as the House Administrator at Meany and Madison middle schools. Prior to working with middle school students and their families, she taught vocationally approved classes at Marshall Alternative High School. She has her Masters in Education from Seattle University and her Bachelor of Arts from Central Washington University.
I know the Whitman community joins me in welcoming Ms. Kleitsch to her new role. I want to thank the staff and families who served on the selection team. Ms. Kleitsch plans to continue Whitman’s focus on ALL students learning and achieving. I could not agree more and I look forward to seeing you all back in school on September 7.
