The first actual work party at the Salmon Bay School playground is this Saturday. The first scheduled party was canceled because the weather didn’t cooperate. Organizers don’t need to worry about rain this time, the forecast is calling for a few clouds and a high of 76.
Volunteers will be painting the periphery lines on the playground from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. “We have everything we need and are ready to go, but we would love to have some help in getting this work done before the fall rains come to stay,” organizer Robin Lofstrom writes.
The playground renderings and more pictures can be found here.
Lofstrom continues with this update on the new playground equipment:
As a quick update, the project is in the process of putting the equipment out for an RFI (request for information) from playground equipment manufacturers; are working towards conducting outreach this fall; planning for our fundraising efforts; working with the landscape architect to develop the design and create construction documents; and planning for the big work in late spring and early summer, when we put the project out to bid for construction and finalize our efforts. Our goal is to open the playground in the fall of 2012.
At this time, there are no plans underway to do Phase 2, which would include moving the dumpsters, and installing play equipment of some type where those dumpsters are now. Phase 3 would include opening up the fence, installing new concrete steps/stadium seating, and envisioning and creating a water-specific feature.
