The Ballard High School jazz band will join two other Seattle high schools at the 17th annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival this weekend. Just 15 schools are on the nationwide list, and this is the first time BHS is appearing at the event.

The event includes competitions, workshops, jam sessions and more. There is an awards ceremony at the end of the weekend to honor outstanding soloists, sections and the top three bands. The top-placing bands will perform with the Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center as well as the 15-piece Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
Roosevelt and Mountlake Terrace high schools will also be at the competition.
