Walls are coming down on NW Market St. at 24th Ave NW, and a large residential and retail development is going in, as we told you in March.
The new building, at 2428 NW Market St., will be a seven-story residential building with retail spaces on the ground floor and a courtyard. It will hold 305 residential units, and 12,200 sq. ft. for retail use. Four residential units will be on the ground floor.
Directly east of the project site is the Ballard Mailbox and Shipping Center. Manager Nicole Witham says it will be a large scale project which will likely take a year or two.
“Right now they are in major demo mode and are knocking down all the old Maritimes Marine buildings (formally Jacobsen’s). This process will be quite disruptive for pedestrians and anyone trying to park along this stretch of roadway,” Witham writes. “Our business will remain open during construction, but will have scaffolding and fencing blocking most of our store front view.”
