On Sunday, Oct. 28, Ballard Greenways and Walk.Bike.Schools! are hosting a family bike ride to explore the future greenways. They’ll meet at 10 a.m. at the Ballard Commons Park (5701 22nd Ave NW) to ride along the future Ballard Greenway to learn more about the project. “We’ll first explore the west side to see how it links with the Burke Gilman Trail, pass by the Ballard Library, then explore the east side of the Greenway before returning to the Ballard Commons and on to the Ballard Farmer’s Market,” writes Jennifer Litowski from the Ballard Greenways.
She says the ride is short, about two miles, to accommodate younger riders. “We will encounter gentle hills, roundabouts, marked and unmarked intersections, uneven and cracked pavement, traffic lights, and a bike lane. This means that it will be a perfect opportunity to teach our emerging urban cyclists about how to successfully navigate these elements in a supportive and fun environment,” Litowski tells us.
