Update, 3 p.m.: Peter Clarke with Seattle City Light says 5,400 customers lost power this afternoon when a seagull shorted out a wire in a major power supply theater in Ballard. Affected areas are south of NW 70th St, west of 9th Ave NW, north of the ship canal and east of the Puget Sound. Crews are out fixing the wires now, and many areas will have power restored soon. However, Clarke says areas around Swedish Hospital could be without power until 7 p.m.
Earlier, 2 p.m.: Areas of Ballard are without power this afternoon. Reader Bob Hedlund said Seattle City Light told him 9,000 were without power in northwest Seattle. It could be up to 6 hours before power is restored. We’ll update with more details.
