Christmas is just a couple weeks away, so if you’re looking to get in the festive mood, the Ballard High School performing arts group is putting on their winter concerts Wednesday and Thursday nights. On Wednesday, Dec. 12, Winter Concert I will include performances from the chamber orchestra, jazz bands, treble choir, men’s ensemble, symphonic band, treble choir and vocal jazz. You’ll hear holidays favorites like “Santa Baby”, “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, and “Oh Baby Its Cold Outside.” The string quartet will make their debut at the concert, including Joe Palasz, who received first place for guitar in the 2012 Washington Music Educators Association Solo & Ensemble Contest, according to BHS. The concert is from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
Winter Concert II is on Thursday, Dec. 13 and includes two shows of British composer John Rutter’s cantata “Gloria” by the orchestra and wind ensemble, concert choir and advanced women’s chorale. “Gloria” is based mainly on one of the Gregorian chants from the Latin text of the Ordinary of the Mass. Learn more about “Gloria” on John Rutter’s website. The performances are at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m.
