36th District Rep. Reuven Carlyle and newly elected Rep. Gael Tarleton will both be serving on prominent committees this legislative session. Rep. Carlyle has been elected as chair of the recently formed House Finance Committee and as a member of the Appropriations Committee, while Rep. Tarleton will be serving on the Rules, Higher Education, Technology and Economic Development, and Transportation Committees.
In a statement, Carlyle said, “We are living in historic times. The legislature has to address a $900 million shortfall, fully fund basic education according to the McCleary decision, and oversee the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. I am tremendously honored to serve the constituents of the 36th District and the people of Washington as we courageously engage with these structural statewide issues.”
“We’re making decisions and choices that will define the future we get ten years from now,” reflected Tarleton in the statement. “It is our chance to create equal access to opportunities for jobs and education. I’m looking forward to tackling the challenges ahead of us.”
The next legislative session starts in January.
