Update on police-involved shooting in Carkeek Park

The SPD has further information to report about the police-involved shooting on Tuesday in the Carkeek Park area. Following a SPD press conference yesterday this update was provided on the SPD Blotter:

Tuesday evening, police received two separate calls from Keewatinawin’s brothers, who told 911 dispatchers their brother was holding a knife to their father’s throat at his North Seattle home. One brother described the incident to a dispatcher as a “hostage” situation.

During the incident, Keewatinawin brandished an 18-inch piece of rebar, which led three officers to open fire, fatally wounding him.

Following the shooting, police collected the rebar and two other weapons found at the scene as evidence:

The Seattle Police Department Homicide Unit is still actively investigating the incident, and the three officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave, which is department procedure following an officer-involved shooting.
