Update:
We just received an email from Teresa Wippel confirming that it was a BHS student who had the airsoft gun on campus. Discipline that the student will receive will not be released as students information is kept confidential.

Seattle Public Schools (SPS) spokesperson Teresa Wippel confirmed that at approximately 1 p.m. Monday a “shelter in place” was called at Ballard High School due to reports of sightings of a suspicious person on campus with a gun. “Shelter in place” is a procedure put in place during emergencies where doors are locked but everything goes on normally inside the school.
“There was a “shelter in place” called but it is all over now,” reported a BHS reception staff member.
Wippel confirmed that SPS Security were called and immediately responded to the reports. “Security officers arrived on campus and confirmed that the gun was in fact an airsoft gun. The airsoft gun was not fired on campus,” says Wippel. Airsoft guns are non-lethal replica firearms that fire plastic pellets.
The person was taken into custody and it is at this stage unclear whether or not they are a student at the school.
All students are safe and the school is no longer in “shelter in place”. SPS Security are currently investigating the incident.
