Over the last few years, we’ve kept you updated on Ballard youngster Owain Weinert and his battle with cancer. Now, after 1,160 days of continuous chemo, Owain ends treatment on May 26. Owain was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) about three years ago. His father, Alex, tells us that there will be a party and fundraiser for Seattle Children’s and cancer research on June 8 at Hale’s Ales (4301 Leary Way NW).
The fundraiser is called “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” and will include a concert, an auction and a headshave. It’s organized by “Crush Kids’ Cancer,” a group set up by the Weinerts, and St. Baldrick’s Foundation and the Cancer Advocacy Network Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital. Three local bands will be playing (The Whole Bolivian Army, Flock of Beavers and Minimum Safe Distance) and there will be an auction including prizes like a cooking class taught by celebrity chef John Howie, Theo’s Chocolate tour and wine tasting for 8, sailing lessons and more. And, to top it off, volunteers from St. Baldrick’s Foundation will be shaving their heads in solidarity with kids fighting cancer. There will be an arcade and movies available for all the kiddos.
Tickets for the event cost $25 per person, and all event proceeds will go to Seattle Children’s Hospital pediatric cancer research. Click here for more info about the event, or here to join as a shavee.
