Tomorrow (Saturday), the Literacy Council of Seattle is holding its 2nd annual fundraiser and book sale at 8500 14th Ave. NW. The “Stock up for Summer Book Sale” will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Or, if you want early bird access, a $5 donation will get you in at 8 a.m.
President of the Literacy Council, Jennifer Collins-Friedrichs, says the selection is top-notch. They’ll have over 6,000 books to choose from in several genres: history, mysteries, health, gardening, cookbooks, travel, art, humor, memoir, and more. They even have over a thousand children’s books, which were donated by Lincoln School.
“We have been helping in the community for over 40 years, and the challenges faced by adults who can’t read or write in English have never been greater,” Collins-Friedrichs said in an email about the event. “Folks can buy a book to help support our programs, or they can learn how to become a literacy volunteer in the community themselves. We are always looking for interested, dedicated people. No experience in teaching is necessary – just a willingness to learn and a desire to help others.”
