The fall sports season at Ballard High School (BHS) has come to an end. Below are some details on a few of the programs that advanced to the playoffs.
Cross Country
BHS sent two runners to the November 9th State competition in Pasco, Washington. Freshman James Konugres placed 67th out of 145 competitors with a time of 16:27.9. He was the second fastest freshman at the competition. Sophomore Jamie Smith placed 66th out of 145 runners with a time of 19:40.7. She was the 15th fastest sophomore. Great showing by both student-athletes!
The following Ballard swimmers competed at the district championships November 8th and 9th:
- Sophomore Tiarra Adler in the 100 and 200 Free
- Senior Luisa Chan in the 100 Fly and 100 Breast
- Sophomore Claire Comiskey in the 50 Free and 100 Fly
- Sophomore Mara Connell in the 50 Free and 100 Free
- Freshman Marguerite Devine-Mraz in the 100 Fly, 500 Free
- Senior Joy Jaeger in the 50 Free and 100 breast
- Senior Christina Korth in the 100 Free and 200 Free
- Sophomore Tianna Lee in the 50 Free, 100 Free
- Freshman Audrey McFarland in the 200 IM and 100 Fly
- 400 Free Relay: Lee, McFarland, Devine-Mraz , and Connell
- 200 Free Relay: Adler, Chan, Jaeger, and Comiskey
- 200 Medley Relay: Adler, Chan, Jaeger, Comiskey with McFarland as alternate Fly
Chan qualified for State in the 100 Breastroke with a new school record of 1:06.81. She also qualified for State in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 59.59. Adler qualified in the individual 100 Freestyle with a time of 56.56. Finally, both the 200 Free Relay and the 200 Medley Relay qualified for State. State competition is this weekend!
The volleyball team advanced to the playoffs for the first time in 5 years. In the Kingco tournament the girls went 1-2 in the double elimination tournament losing to Bothell and Eastlake but eliminating Roosevelt. Student athletes from the team also received all conference honors. Senior Sophie Bolz made first team All Kingco and Senior Kiana Wylde made second team. Senior Grace Taylor and Junior Cari Brown made honorable mention. Brown was also the Seattle Times player of the Week early in the season. Great season girls!
