We just got word that Senator Maria Cantwell will be hosting a rally against a proposed multi billion dollar pebble mine near the headwaters of two major Bristol Bay salmon streams in Alaska. The rally is being held at Fisherman’s Terminal (3919 18th Ave W) at 12:30 p.m. this afternoon and all are welcome to attend.
According to a Seattle PI report, an assessment by the Environmental Protection Agency deemed that the proposed Pebble Mine may cause serious harm to the Bristol Bay fishery. The Fishery is said to be worth nearly $500 million and employs 14,000 people, may of whom are local Seattle fisherman.
According to the report, Vancouver-based Northern Dynasty Minerals is strongly pushing for the Pebble Mine to be created.
All are welcome to attend the rally this afternoon that will be reportedly well attended by Seattle-area fisheries workers, conservation groups, and celebrity chef Tom Douglas.
