According to our news partners at The Seattle Times, Ballard High School went briefly into “shelter in place” mode this morning after a report that shots were fired in the neighborhood.
Stacy Howard, spokeswoman for Seattle Public Schools, confirmed that the school entered “shelter in place” mode and that it is now over. Howard also confirmed that Seattle police investigated the reports and found no cause for concern.
“Unfortunately, this has happened a lot lately in all parts of the city,” Howard told The Seattle Times.
Howard also confirmed that the principal usually decides what precautions to take when shots are reported around a school.
According to The Seattle Times report “shelter in place” is less drastic than a full lock-down, where all shades are drawn and students and staff take cover.
