The My Ballard team received mulitple reports about a driver doing donuts in the intersection of 15th Ave NW and NW Market St at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday night.
My Ballard reader Anna and her boyfriend were waiting for the lights to change and witnessed the incident. Check out Anna’s observations below:
My boyfriend and I were waiting at the light on the north side of the intersection (going southbound) and we heard honking from the cars by the Shell station and then saw a light-colored wagon car with a black car-top carrier speed out into the intersection with screeching tires. The driver almost hit a couple cars that were turning, and then did 5-6 high speed circles (attempted donuts) in the intersection before speeding off in the direction of the Ballard Bridge,” says Anna.
The cars in front of us started going through the intersection and we thought we would make it through the light, but we got a yellow light and ended up being the first car in the lane next to the turn lane. We then saw him come speeding back up 15th on the wrong side of the road, cut off and almost hit cars that were in the intersection turning, and then he did 5-6 more donuts before speeding off towards the bridge again.
We saw him take the exit before getting onto the bridge (the street by Miller Paint) and the car next to us sped after him like they were going to try to get his license plate, but I guess that must not have panned out since he was seen again at 24th and Market later in the night.
Multiple videos of the incident have turned up online along with threads on reddit written by locals who observed the incident. “Apparently, he did the same thing at 24th and Market around 10:30pm on Friday as well so he obviously didn’t get caught by the police,” says Anna.
According to Anna, the driver appeared to be a male in his mid-20’s to early 30’s with glasses, facial hair, and had a dark jacket on.
