SDOT contractors will reach the final stages of the N Northgate Way Improvement Project by the end of next week. The final major piece of work is set to be repaving the intersection of North Northgate Way and Meridian Avenue North.
Until construction is completed, traffic on Northgate Way between Meridian and Corliss will remain reduced to a single lane in each direction. There will be no left turns permitted onto Northgate Way from southbound Meridian. (This traffic will be directed to detour via N 107th St and Corliss Ave N.)
In addition, there will be no left turns onto Meridian from eastbound Northgate Way. Northbound traffic on Meridian will be reduced to a single lane at Northgate Way, although through traffic, left and right turns, will be permitted from this lane.
Tonight from 6 p.m. – midnight SDOT crews will grind and remove the existing asphalt of the intersection, with the work being done in sections in order to keep it open to vehicular traffic. Uniformed police officers will be present to help keep traffic flowing.
From Tuesday, November 11, at 6 p.m. through Wednesday, November 12, at 3 a.m. the intersection will be repaved. This work will require the closure of the intersection to eastbound and westbound traffic, with a detour set to be in place to North 107th St. (See map below.)
Northbound and southbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction. Weather permitting, the intersection will be paved and restored by Wednesday, November 12.
Over the coming week, in addition to the intersection repaving, crews will finish curb ramp installation, driveways, and roadway striping, all necessary before Northgate Way can be fully reopened.
