Ballard’s latest watering hole the Bergschrund is set to open this Friday, December 19, in the previous location of the  2-Bit Saloon at 4818 17th Ave NW.

The tap room is owned by NW Peaks founder Kevin Klein and is set to feature almost exclusively NW Peaks beers.

The Bergschrund will be family friendly and, in addition to beer, will offer customers wine and a small selection of pizza. A food truck is also set to be permanently located outside.

After some special kegs of one offs, sours and barrel aged beers have been sold, the Bergschrund will feature a cider handle and a guest tap for unique WA beers.

Klein and his team have also spent time renovating the space and updating the ambiance. “While the overall structure and layout hasn’t changed except for a few things, we have updated nearly all the fixtures, walls, and bathrooms. We feel that we have created a very warm and inviting place to mingle and enjoy NW Peaks beverages,” says Klein.

NW Peaks Brewery will also close its Base Camp tasting room to coincide with the opening of the Bergschrund on Friday. Sometime in the future, Klein and his team plan to re-open a taproom at the brewery site.

“By eliminating consumer traffic through that area we can be more efficient with our time, expand production slightly, and more comfortably plan for expansion,” says Klein.

Initially, the Bergschrund will be open Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m., Saturday from 2 p.m. – 10 p.m. and Sunday noon – 8 p.m. Hours and days are set to be expanded in the new year.
