The Seattle Public Library’s 2015 Summer of Learning for youth and families is set to start next Friday, June 15. The 96th annual program is designed to keep young people reading and learning while school is out.
A variety of the activities are taking place at Ballard Library (5614 22nd Ave NW) throughout the summer.
“Wild Science!” is the theme for this year’s program, encouraging reading and activities centered around science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
Children and teens can also sign up for multi-day classes where they can learn to build robots, create video games, use Legos for stop motion animation, sketch wildlife biology and more.
Program elements this year also include:
- A booklet for children ages 7-12 filled with science experiments, games, puzzles and activities
- A booklet for children from birth to age 5 that lists fun, brain-building games and activities that support early learning.
All programs are free and open to the public. Free parking is available at branches in the branch parking lots or on nearby streets. Parking is available in the Central Library garage at the regular rates.
Children, teens and parents of children up to age 5 are invited to visit any Library location to pick up a free book and a guide to hundreds of fun, free programs.
Participants also can fill out a survey to get two free tickets (while supplies last) to Woodland Park Zoo (on Friday, September 11, Saturday, September 12 or Sunday, September 13.)
