Tomorrow, July 23, the Ballard Community Taskforce on Homelessness and Hunger holds a meeting to discuss the new tent encampments proposed by Mayor Murray, two sites of which are in the Ballard area. (Read MyBallard report here.)
Since the release of the information, the main Ballard site on 2826 NW Market Street has evoked concerns by nearby businesses and neighbors, as reported in early July.
Ballard Community Taskforce may bring to light an alternative opinion in a discussion tomorrow morning. “The City Council and the Mayor need to hear from those who support an encampment in Ballard,” writes the Taskforce in early July.
Community members are invited to continue the encampment discussion with presentations by Sharon Lee, Executive Director of the Low Income Housing Institute (which has proposed to offer case management at the encampment sites), Ballard District Council member Jody Grage, and a representative from Nickelsville– one of the organizations approved to administer the new encampments.
The meeting takes place at 10:30 AM at the Nyer Urness House (1753 NW 56th St). For more information or to RSVP go to the Facebook event page here.
